ST JOHN'S

LUTHERAN CHURCH

Christian Education Opportunities

The original constitution of St. John's written in the later 1700s created an emphasis and environment of Christian Education.  The first schoolhouse of any kind in what is now Cabarrus County, North Carolina, was constructed here.  This tradition has lived on into the present day at St. John's where we offer many opportunities for people to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and lasting relationships with folks in the community.

St. John's offers to the community a pre-school program that we call "Playschool" where children from the community learn important skills that will help carry them through life.  The school has a long-term reputation in the community for preparing the child for kindergarten and their school career.

During the month of June we offer to the community Vacation Bible School.  This week-long event supplies a meal each night, various fun activities, music, time for study, and especially an unforgettable time for growth with each other and Jesus.  There is something for everyone of all ages at St. John's Vacation Bible School.

St. John's offers a Sunday School program for all ages; from nursery to adult.  Each class is oriented toward the age of the individual.  Elementary school age classes uses the "Group" curriculum.  All the Elementary school aged classes are located in the Educational Building; which is the building located to the right of the sanctuary.

Our youth Sunday school classes use Bible stories, videos and other materials to discuss their issues in life and their relationship to Jesus.  During the seventh and eighth grade our youth are involved in the Sharehouse Confirmation Cooperative.  This cooperative involves the same aged youth and pastors of about seven other area Lutheran congregations.  They study various points of the faith; such as The Ten Commandments, Holy Communion, Holy Baptism, Lutheran Heritage, The Apostle's Creed, and Holy Scripture.  Learning occurs through many types of learning activities; such as crafts, traditional class study, computers, videos, worship, games, hands-on activities, and so forth.  Sometimes the parents are involved in the learning.  Once a year the "confirmation youth" go on a learning retreat to the mountains once a year.
