My Father’s House was born out of a program called Family Promise, which was established by a group of twelve to fifteen congregations to provide temporary housing for homeless families. St. John’s partnered with St. James Lutheran Church in Concord to provide temporary housing and meals, plus someone staying overnight, each quarter, starting in 2007. Families had to move each week to a new host church.

In 2010, Cooperative Christian Ministries of Cabarrus County offered to take over the program. This was a tremendous blessing for the families as CCM was able to provide one location, with paid staff on site, to house the families. This eliminated the need to move all their belongings to a new church each week.

This permanent site has expanded the capability of My Father’s House to house up to ten families. St. John’s continues to share the responsibility of providing meals with St. James Lutheran Church, on a quarterly basis.  Other program services, such as providing help with job searches, financial management, preparation of a family budget and time management, are provided for the families as they prepare to transition into more stable, independent housing.
